Another amazing month at The Nonlinear Life! As the leaves begin to change and we make our way into the fall, we continue to look forward to your thoughts, comments, and feedback. From Jane Fonda to the Royal Family, you sounded off on some of our most noteworthy pieces.
Three lessons about what to say – and what not to say – when you learn that you’re sick. Jane Fonda was the inspiration for this post -- and that association made some people uncomfortable and others defend her.
Jane Fonda has done a lot of good in her life past her Vietnam protest days. People should get over themselves and have some compassion for a very philanthropic woman who has cancer…something that should not be wished on anyone. - The Griddle Restaurant Boca Raton Florida
I can say Jane had great talent as an actress. As an advocate not so much. I am a nurse of 27 years and now take care of my elderly and disabled parents. My dad because of agent orange and what he was exposed to at a young age in Vietnam. A company commander at 24, which is ridiculous. A war of death that soldier’s didn’t want, but we’re sent to do. Now I care for him daily with all the cancer, friends with ALS and so many sick. It wasn’t their choice. - Kimberly Knapp
September was dominated with coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth. Her passing was the occasion for many things--not least was a global lesson in what to do and what not to do in a life transition.
Was interested in your comment that transitions last 5 years. I have lived in 5 different countries, and have moved to a different home many times. I thought I had it all figured out at one point...that it took at least 4 years to be really established in a new location. This included learning the language and feeling comfortable in the culture as well as making good friends.I will now have to get your book "Life is in the Transitions". Look forward to reading it ! - Marie Hanna Oplesch
3. How the Death of Queen Elizabeth Will Affect Her Adult Children, According to Science
With the death of Queen Elizabeth, the reality of what happens when a parent dies and the children are left to manage the pieces is hard to ignore. Once again, the Royal Family has lessons to teach us all.
So fascinating to think of the complex dynamics that manifest in the wake of such tragedy. - Lauren Bittrich
4. Town Defunds Library Over LGBTQ Book. Resident Raises $250,000 to Re-Fund It
Book banning was back in the news this month, especially with the news of a town defunfunding Patmos Library over the novel Gender Queer. Thank you for engaging on this toic.
This is happening right now in my little town!!! - Heidi Greenfield
A library is meant for learning. When you (a town) decides what should be on those shelves, you are taking away everyone‘s right to knowledge. You actively voted to take away free knowledge from the hands and minds of ALL your residents. What does that actually say about you? Read Fahrenheit 451, it will do you some good. Oh wait, you can’t, you closed down your library. Now that is some good old fascism if I’ve ever seen it. However CONGRATS to the reopening of your library though it would it seem really awkward walking in and using it since you shut it down. Unreal!!!! - Shamus Veranda L'Ni Dickinson
As always, thank you for reading, sharing, and subscribing. And see you in October!
